As the saying goes, ‘location, location, location’.

This is mainly true in photography. You need the location that will tell your story correctly. But you also need some great light for your photos to turn out awesome. So, maybe the saying should be ‘light, light, location, location’.

A great location with rubbish light will not help us create photos of the highest standard.

If a particular outdoors location is desired, adding to your story, then it would be ideal to plan ahead and work out the best time of day to photograph you there.

WINDY Wellington

Being residents of the beautiful and WINDY Wellington, we do have to take wind into account for outdoor photographs. If having the perfect hair is important to you, then, we should plan to take at least some of your photos inside. But if you don’t mind the adventure of dodging the wind and the energy each gust brings, then lets do it.

WINDY Wellington Headshot

Sometimes a gust of wind is all you need to fill your headshots with energy.

People in your shot

Something else to keep in mind when choosing your photoshoot locations is the public. People walking past, getting in the way of your photos or staring at you. I can do my best to reduce the people in the photos. But will you feel self conscious being photographed in front of others? Would you mind being watched by passers by? On the plus side, they may think your a celebrity and stand their trying to work out where they have seen you before 😂

The great outdoors is great, sometimes the weather smiles down upon us. Other times, the wind is pumping with hair blowing in every direction. It's always a great idea to have a plan B.

AirB&B

If you feel that your home or workplace isn’t going to cut it as a photo location, then an AirB&B could come to the rescue. Yes, they come at a price, but at least you don't have to tidy up before the photographer arrives.

At the end of the day, make sure that you choose locations that align with your story, your brand and your shot list.
